This week we started working on a new unit. For the month of November we will be focused on throwing, catching and moving (or positioning) our bodies. I was away for the majority of the week with the grade 6 students at Camp Kindle, leading our outdoor school experience which was a huge success.
In my absence, students played a variety of throwing and catching games with Mme. Courtney and Mme. Harbinson. Take a moment with your child and ask them what they are doing to catch and throw with precision. In kindergarten we continued to participate in some EYE related stations where students got to display their gross motor skills. This week we played a variety of games involving running and team work. I am continuing to assess running form while students continue to build on their running skills. Thanks to the wonderful weather, we have been outside. Continue to send your child with outdoor running shoes as we endeavour to be outdoors as often as possible for PE.
Grades 3 to 6 Relay race with baton transitioning Bean bag stealers Grades 1 and 2 Various tag games Relay races Kindergarten We are preparing some skills for the upcoming EYE assessment, so we were busy working on: balancing on one foot, jumping on two feet, catching and throwing. Students have been building on the running unit done in September by adding some learning about track and field, or by learning some new games. Some classes, due to photo day taking up the gym, also got to learn about Speed Stacks! Speed stacks is a new resource that the school has purchased that will help students with manual dexterity. It will also give them something fun and active to do on the freezing cold days we can't go outside.

This year in honor of M. Murray and all those that have lost due to cancer, the students of Varsity Acres ran 3006 KMs, that is 844 KMs more than we ran last year. Great work to all the students that pushed themselves to run a little bit longer and to try a little bit harder than they thought they could.
